The Opportunity

To support VAST’s strategic goals and growth, we are on the lookout for talented individuals that will embrace our close-knit culture and positive, team-oriented working environment.

We are looking for a Drafting/CAD Technician to support our expanding engineering and geomatics teams. The position will provide immense learning opportunities to the candidate, supporting our drafting professionals with a wide range of engineering and forestry projects. The candidate will support our clients throughout the Kootenay region, contribute to the department’s growth and gain experience in a wide range of sectors and scales of projects. This is a permanent, full‐time position, based in Cranbrook, BC.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide drafting support to our engineering and forestry teams;

  • Develop drawings from conceptual sketches, preliminary designs, engineering calculations, and other data;

  • Use survey data to produce digital and hard copy civil, resource road and site drawings utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software;

  • Examine drawings for errors and/or omissions, making alterations as required;

  • Project coordination and communication with clients and internal team members;
  • Continued learning and skill development to ensure familiarity with current drafting techniques and to sustain technical skills.

 

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Will have a diploma or degree in a drafting-related field (ex: Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technologist, Geomatics Engineering Technician, etc.) from a recognized academic institution;

  • Will be registered as an AScT, CTech or possess another technical accreditation;
  • Brings two (2) or more years of practical experience with drafting;

  • Will have a strong background in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD;

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility; adaptive management and teamwork is a definite asset;
  • Demonstrates an ability to proficiently complete identified job responsibilities;
  • Will have strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills;
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills; and,
  • Will possess a current Driver’s License.
