The Opportunity

VAST is seeking an experienced Professional Forester to provide field based and project management leadership to a diverse array of forestry projects.

Your Responsibilities

  • Working as a crew lead on a wide array of forestry projects;

  • Supervision of multiple field crews;

  • Involved in all aspects of CP/TSL development, including the preparation of site plans and woodlot license plans;

  • Working with project managers and other senior staff to manage all aspects of project implementation, including proposals, work plans, scheduling, reporting, quality management, and day-to-day client liaison;

  • Developing and managing effective relationships with clients, industry, government, Indigenous Nations, other consulting firms, and the communities where we work and live;

  • Participating in business development, client relationship management and QA/QC activities;

  • Contributing to a positive workplace atmosphere, building on VAST’s culture of teamwork, fun, professionalism and cooperation within the office and field environments.

Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility, adaptive management and teamwork is a definite asset.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Registered Professional Forester in good standing with FPBC;

  • Five or more years of practical applied forestry experience;

  • Knowledge of British Columbia’s forest tenure system;

  • Strong client relation skills;

  • Knowledge of legislation, authorizations and permits related to BC Forestry;

  • Experience in supervision of field crews;

  • Experience liaising with regulators, Indigenous Nations, and other key stakeholders;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills;

  • Detail-oriented, emphasizing quality of work;

  • Valid First Aid certification and a comittment to health, safety, and wellness;

  • Valid Driver’s License.
