The Opportunity

To support VAST’s strategic goals and growth, we are on the lookout for talented individuals who will embrace our close-knit culture and positive, team-oriented working environment.

We are looking for a Junior Engineer to support our diverse engineering team with challenging projects. This position will support VAST’s engineering team with a wide range of tasks related to civil, forestry, geotechnical and forestry-related projects throughout the Kootenay region. The candidate will be immersed in learning and professional growth opportunities, while gaining experience in a range of sectors and scales of projects. This is a permanent, full‐time position, based in Cranbrook, BC.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support the Geotechnical, Environmental, Forestry and Civil engineering leads with various field assessments, data analysis, computations, technical documentation and reporting requirements;

  • Field visits and travel to complete assessments, data analysis, inspections and reporting requirements;

  • Assist senior and intermediate engineering colleagues with general project support, including field and desktop-related tasks;

  • Assist colleagues with project coordination, proposals and cost estimates;

  • Support peer review of designs, reports, proposals and communications prepared by staff and/or subcontractors;

  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, clients, regulators, government and First Nations;

  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility, adaptive management and teamwork is a definite asset.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Will have a BSc or MSc in Geotechnical, Environmental, Forestry or Civil Engineering from a recognized academic institution;

  • Will be graduating from an engineering program in 2024 (also open to recent graduates);

  • Will be registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC);

  • Is a keen learner, desiring to advance technical knowledge and learn regulatory requirements;

  • Enjoys problem-solving, critical thinking and delivering creative solutions;

  • Will be a team player and is adaptable to unique challenges and client requirements;

  • Exhibits excellent customer service qualities and enjoys liaising with clients and stakeholders;

  • Demonstrates ability to proficiently complete the identified job responsibilities;

  • Will possess a current Driver’s License;

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
