We are excited to welcome Alexander Davis, Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC, to the VAST Resource Solutions team as an Intermediate Forester.
Born and raised on B.C’s Sunshine Coast, Alex’s journey into forestry began at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. His studies took him to Australia for a semester before finishing his Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Conservation at UBC Vancouver in 2021. During his final year of university studies, Alex and his fiancé, both passionate about the outdoors, relocated to Nelson, B.C., where they were able to complete their degrees online during the COVID pandemic. This move eventually led them to Cranbrook, to pursue career opportunities.
Since 2021, Alex has been actively involved in the regional forestry consulting sector and has a deep understanding of forest management and conservation. His experience spans full-phase forest development, including LiDAR planning, reconnaissance, cutblock and road layout, and various field-level assessments such as soils, riparian areas, and forest health. Alex is also highly skilled in preparing detailed site plans.
Alex’s decision to join VAST Resource Solutions was driven by his desire to pursue a professional biologist designation. The company’s diverse service offerings, which include both forestry and environmental departments, provide the ideal environment for Alex. Shortly after joining VAST in May, Alex applied to become a Biologist in Training with the College of Applied Biologists.
“In addition to my goal of pursuing my RPBio designation, I was also looking for some work-life balance in my job,” said Alex. “I knew a few people who worked at VAST and had a bit of an inside track into the company culture – it seemed like a great fit for me. And there’s a good combination between field work, which I love, and office work, which gives me a bit of flexibility in my day.”
Alex’s passion for the outdoors is a common thread in his career and personal life. Outside of work, Alex is an avid rock climber, camper, hiker, mountain biker, and back-country snowboarder.
“I do a lot of different activities, but my favorite thing to do is rock climbing – I try to get out as much as possible,” said Alex. “I’m also trying to get more into mountaineering and have recently taken some training and skill development around that.”
We are thrilled to have Alex on board and look forward to the expertise and energy he brings to the team. Welcome to VAST, Alex!
